Character Limits by Platform

Different platforms enforce different character limits. Here's a quick reference for the most common ones:

Twitter / X character limit

Twitter allows up to 280 characters per tweet for standard accounts. URLs count as 23 characters regardless of their actual length. Twitter Blue subscribers can post longer content.

Instagram character limit

Instagram captions allow up to 2,200 characters. However, captions are truncated after the first 125 characters in the feed — the rest is hidden behind a "more" button. Instagram bios are limited to 150 characters.

LinkedIn character limit

LinkedIn posts allow up to 3,000 characters. Connection requests are limited to 300 characters. LinkedIn headlines are limited to 220 characters.

What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?

Characters with spaces counts every character including spaces. Characters without spaces counts only letters, numbers, and punctuation — excluding spaces. Some academic and submission systems specify which measure they use, so it's worth checking before submitting.
